Tonight’s drop off for our family took a little twist, as our mattress order did not arrive on time. We decided to give the family one night off and make Monday’s drop off bigger and better than they will ever expect.

I called the family tonight to tell them that their special delivery is coming Monday and it will be worth the wait. I ended up talking to the 14-year old daughter for about 20 minutes. She said this has changed their lives and she can’t thank everyone enough. She said they feel absolutely blessed and can’t believe that a group of strangers cares so much to help them out. Their fridge has never been so full, they have no room in their pantry for all the dry goods and their freezer is now stocked. They are so excited for the huge turkey delivery too. She said she was so overwhelmed the first day ($100 superstore gift card and a small box of baking tins/cake mixes) that they are just speechless every night as this continues and grows. I had to mute the phone a few times because I was getting choked up listening to this wonderful girl feel a little spark of joy over these past 8 days.

Both of the girls have written notes to us and are giving them to their teacher after the break. I said that wasn’t necessary and we are just as excited to shop, plan and deliver as they are for the sound of the doorbell.
