Friends,
We had a final twist to our 12 days of hope drop off this afternoon. We paid our family’s rent for the month of January but the card seemed too small in a little envelope for the last night. So the elves in our house put together a gift basket with a Starbucks card, more movie cards and the girls had asked for some jewellery which I didn’t know how to add to our list. However, due to my mother’s obsession with jewelry and constant shopping in México, I decided to wrap up some new jewelry I still had in bags to really make this last night sparkle.
Here’s the twist – we heard from the landlord that the neighbours next door really needed some help as their daughter (9) is disabled and the son has been really sick in and out of the hospital. We gave them a card paying their rent for January.
Here is another update:
We delivered to both homes this afternoon and the family met us at the door. They both had big hugs and a Merry Christmas for everyone, they looked so happy. We didn’t stay and wait for them to open the card or take pictures (they were in their comfy jammies) but they did give us directions to the neighbours.
We went around the corner to deliver the card and $200 grocery gift card. We were met at the door. We explained that ‘My Sister in law and Brother along with a group of friends have been helping out a family in the neighborhood and had heard that they could use a little help this Christmas as well’.
Her husband had managed to make it to the top of the stairs to say thank you, and her children all shook our hands and were extremely appreciative, not knowing what was in the gift bag.
Even though we haven’t participated in the wonderful things your group has been doing for families in need, we left feeling like we’ve helped someone.
You and your friends are doing amazing things for people who are way behind and in need. It’s nice to know that people can directly make a difference.
This sure makes Christmas even more special for our family this year knowing that we helped someone else just a little.
Wherever you are tonight, we wish you all the best for a wonderful holiday with your families and loved ones around you. Here’s to more good things to come with 12 days of hope in 2020!
